I have received a lot of emails in the past week asking me to support the following:
• Giving all families a maternity guarantee of a personalised care journey that fits their needs.
• Giving all sick and premature babies the best chance of survival and quality of life.
• Providing every family with the bereavement care they need after pregnancy or baby loss.
The answer to whether I support these measures is Yes, Yes and Yes. For me it is an absolute no-brainer.
As the son of a midwife of 28 years who was not only a pioneer of maternal medicine in Scotland being a g-grade sister midwife, but who helped set up maternity facilities in impoverished countries such as Malawi (https://www.thenational.scot/news/18992183.achievement-scots-helped-mothers-thousands-miles-away/); I can say Yes, Yes and Yes to all three of the points. I wholly support them.
